MSH3
Associated conditions:
- Colorectal cancer
- Polyposis
MSH3 is part of the cell's spell-checker that fixes mistakes made when DNA is copied. Genetic changes in this gene are associated with an autosomal recessive form of colon polyposis, arising when both copies carry a fault, bringing an increased colorectal and other cancer risk. Knowing your genetic status enables bowel surveillance for affected individuals.

Colorectal cancer
Colorectal cancer develops in the colon or rectum, usually from polyps that turn cancerous over years. An inherited predisposition raises lifetime risk and shifts it earlier, so it is highly preventable with earlier, more frequent colonoscopy that finds and removes polyps before they progress.
