POLD1
Associated conditions:
- Colorectal cancer
- Polyposis
POLD1 makes part of a DNA-copying enzyme that proofreads its own work as it duplicates the genome. Genetic changes in this gene that disable this proofreading are associated with an autosomal dominant condition called polymerase proofreading-associated polyposis, with many bowel polyps and an increased risk of bowel and womb cancer. Knowing your genetic status enables early colonoscopy.

Colorectal cancer
Colorectal cancer develops in the colon or rectum, usually from polyps that turn cancerous over years. An inherited predisposition raises lifetime risk and shifts it earlier, so it is highly preventable with earlier, more frequent colonoscopy that finds and removes polyps before they progress.
