AIP

Associated conditions:

  • Pituitary adenomas

AIP acts as a tumour suppressor that helps keep pituitary cell growth in check. Genetic changes in this gene are associated with an autosomal dominant condition called familial isolated pituitary adenoma, which often produces young-onset growth-hormone tumours that can drive gigantism. Knowing your genetic status enables early hormone testing and MRI monitoring to catch these tumours early.

Pituitary adenomas

Pituitary adenomas are usually benign tumours of the pituitary gland that can overproduce hormones or press on nearby structures. Some inherited forms appear young, so carriers benefit from hormone testing and MRI monitoring to treat them early.
