CAV3
Associated conditions:
- Cardiomyopathy
CAV3 makes caveolin-3, a protein that builds tiny pouches in the membrane of muscle cells and keeps them structurally sound. Genetic changes in this gene are associated with an autosomal dominant risk of muscle-wasting disorders, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and long QT syndrome, an electrical fault that can trigger dangerous heart rhythms. Knowing your genetic status enables cardiac monitoring.

Cardiomyopathy
Cardiomyopathy is disease of the heart muscle that can make it thickened, enlarged or weakened. Inherited forms can affect the heart’s pumping or rhythm, so carriers are monitored with heart scans and ECGs and treated early to protect heart function.
