CRYAB
Associated conditions:
- Cardiomyopathy
CRYAB makes alphaB-crystallin, a chaperone protein that keeps other proteins, especially the muscle scaffold protein desmin, from clumping. Genetic changes in this gene let toxic protein aggregates build up and are associated with an autosomal dominant risk of cardiomyopathy and myopathy in heart and skeletal muscle. Knowing your genetic status enables cardiac monitoring that helps catch problems early.
Conditions linked to CRYAB
Cardiomyopathy
Cardiomyopathy is disease of the heart muscle that can make it thickened, enlarged or weakened. Inherited forms can affect the heart’s pumping or rhythm, so carriers are monitored with heart scans and ECGs and treated early to protect heart function.
