MET

Associated conditions:

  • Renal/urinary tract cancer

MET makes a growth-signaling receptor that tells kidney cells when to grow. Genetic changes in this gene are associated with an autosomal dominant condition called hereditary papillary renal cancer, causing multiple slow-growing tumours in both kidneys, often at a young age. Knowing your genetic status enables regular imaging that can catch these tumours early enough to treat.

Conditions linked to MET

Renal/urinary tract cancer

Cancers of the kidney and urinary tract develop in the kidneys, ureters or bladder lining. Several inherited variants raise their risk, so carriers may be offered periodic kidney imaging and urine testing to catch tumours early.
