SDHAF2

Associated conditions:

  • Endocrine cancer

SDHAF2 makes a helper protein needed to assemble succinate dehydrogenase, a key enzyme in the cell's energy factories. Genetic changes in this gene are associated with an autosomal dominant predisposition to paragangliomas, usually head and neck tumours, with risk depending on inheriting the altered copy from your father. Knowing your genetic status enables regular imaging.

Endocrine cancer

Endocrine cancers affect hormone-producing glands such as the thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal glands or pancreatic islet cells. Inherited variants can drive tumours in one or more of these glands, so awareness supports periodic hormone testing and imaging to catch changes early.
