SMARCA4
Associated conditions:
- Gynaecologic cancer
SMARCA4 makes BRG1, a motor protein in a complex that reshapes DNA packaging to control which genes switch on. Genetic changes in this gene are associated with an autosomal dominant risk of small cell carcinoma of the ovary, hypercalcaemic type, a rare aggressive cancer of young women. Knowing your genetic status enables carriers to consider risk-reducing surgery.
Conditions linked to SMARCA4
Gynaecologic cancer
Gynaecologic cancers include ovarian, uterine (endometrial) and related cancers. Inherited variants can raise the risk of one or more of these, so knowing your status guides screening discussions and risk-reducing options such as surgery after childbearing.
