MYLK
Associated conditions:
- Cardiomyopathy
MYLK makes an enzyme that triggers contraction in the smooth muscle lining artery walls. Genetic changes in this gene are associated with an autosomal dominant weakening of the aorta, which can tear or dissect suddenly even without much prior widening. Knowing your genetic status enables blood-pressure control and prompt care of any symptoms, since warning is limited.

Cardiomyopathy
Cardiomyopathy is disease of the heart muscle that can make it thickened, enlarged or weakened. Inherited forms can affect the heart’s pumping or rhythm, so carriers are monitored with heart scans and ECGs and treated early to protect heart function.
