TNNI3

Associated conditions:

  • Cardiomyopathy

TNNI3 makes cardiac troponin I, a switch inside heart muscle that controls how the muscle contracts and relaxes with each beat. Genetic changes in this gene are associated with an autosomal dominant risk of hypertrophic or restrictive cardiomyopathy that can lead to heart failure or dangerous rhythms. Knowing your genetic status enables monitoring and treatment to protect heart function.

Cardiomyopathy

Cardiomyopathy is disease of the heart muscle that can make it thickened, enlarged or weakened. Inherited forms can affect the heart’s pumping or rhythm, so carriers are monitored with heart scans and ECGs and treated early to protect heart function.
